Test Day Tips

BEFORE:

  • Please bring your permit and drivers license on test day.  YOU CANNOT TEST WITHOUT THESE OFFICIAL/ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS.  Proof of identification is required/mandated by the Illinois Secretary of State.
  • Get a good nights sleep the night prior to testing and make sure to eat breakfast.
  • Relax.  Avoid mental and physical tension.  Remember, motorcycling is a skill of the eyes and mind.
  • If you sign up for testing and fail to show, it will count against you.  Please contact our office at (630) 639-5133, if you will be unable to attend your scheduled testing date.

DURING:

  • Licensing exams are administered by the Illinois Secretary of State.  The examiners are not affiliated with Illinois Council of Safety.  All scoring and pass/fail decisions are final, and at the sole discretion of the state examiner.
  • **TESTING WILL BE CANCELED IF THERE IS ANY RAIN** -- even a light sprinkle.  The pavement must be dry in order for testing to occur.  This is a requirement mandated by the Illinois Secretary of State.
  • Test days are on Tuesdays at 7:00 a.m..(subject to change).  Instructors will arrive 30 minutes prior to testing.  Plan to arrive early to allow yourself time to warm up.
  • Testing takes approximately 5-10 minutes per student.  There will only one examiner, and only one student can be tested at a time.
  • Choose a motorcycle that is similar to one used during your training.  If you feel uncomfortable with a given motorcycle, do not test on it.

AFTER:

WHEN YOU PASS:

  • You will be given a signed and stamped approval form from the examiner.
After you receive this approval, do NOT alter the document.  To obtain you endorsement, take the form, permit, and drivers license to your local Illinois Secretary of State facility.  (note: a fee may apply)
  • The 'pass' sheet from the examiner is not a 'M' endorsement on your license.  Until you officially complete the licensing process, DO NOT ride any motorcycle outside the limitations of your permit.
  • The 'pass' sheet is valid up to one year from your test date.

SHOULD YOU NEED AN ADDITIONAL TEST DATE:

  • In some instances, the examiner may allow you to re-test.  A re-test is at the sole discretion of the field examiner.  Ask, if needed.
  • If you cannot re-schedule, or would prefer to take the test on your own motorcycle or scooter, you may do so at your own risk.
  • You may also go to your local Illinois Secretary of State facility and test.  Check each site for motorcycle testing availability.
