Bought a Rebel myself.... learned the hard way after LVC had it in the shop for 10 days on a carb clean.... Next time either buy new or rebuild carb myself!

Ok, I bought a new Harley Sportster last December from the the Harley "stealer", and then....a yamaha off ebay to learn on (why drop a new Harley?)I came to ICS because after lots of promises and no action, Harley couldn't seem to get me into a class! So thanks to Troy and crew, I got a license, gave my Yamaha to my daughter for a college grad present, and started riding my Sportster. I love it, and it is worth all the flack I got for being a "Harley guy". Now the problem....My daughter wants to ride, my son got a bike for Christmas, and both of them have licenses...but who watches the 4 year old grandson if we all go riding??? SO...yeah I know....back to ebay!!! We found an ElectraGlide Classic with matching sidecar!!! Somehow it got lost in the listings; I scored a great deal on it way below book!!!! Only one problem...It was located about 1 hour WEST of Minneapolis!!!

So July 3 (my birthday) we drove up there (600 miles) and got the bike....hey I wanted to be a rider!!! The first 30 miles were ok, then out on the INTERSTATE!!! OMG ONLY 560 MILES TO GO!!! Kinda scary, but you know what? ALL THE SAME SKILLS STILL APPLY! SEE, SLPR, etc etc...2 second rule, scan 12 seconds ahead, all of it!! I will admit we only made it to Eau Claire the first day...about 260 miles...fighting the sidecar was much tougher than I thought it would be. So we stayed the night (hey, proper rest is a skill as well!!) On July 4 we came on home, sidecar in the van and me riding the bike! I just want to tell ya...when we hit Janesville WI about 830pm, the whole town turned out to cheer me on with Fireworks!!! It was great! We came on thru, and got home about 11pm. I learned so much on this trip; I feel like a seasoned rider now..all the skills really got seated well!!! I think I AM a bit deaf (its a real Harley...LOUD) lol. So since May, I have put 1200 miles on the sportster; 400 miles on the yamaha, and 1100 miles on the ElectraGlide!! I am beginning to understand that there really is different types of riding, and different bikes are best for different things! I am finding the Sportster is great around town, running here and there, but for real fun...spending 6-9 hours on the bike over the weekend, I really like the big cruiser...better seat, air shocks, the works. Also..I just met a great gal that likes to sit on the back of it....but that is another story for another board!!!!!!!

Go RED!!! See I am not the only one who realizes that sometimes you need a different bike! The Yamaha I gave to my daughter is a 650 and I was/am amazed at the power! You are going to love it up hills, passing trucks, etc! Let me know, we can go riding sometime (providing it does not snow..lol)
