WOW...I just couldn't get over it, class was on a Sat/Sun for us. THAT Monday (not riding illegally of course--I had a partner) I was out and about and came around a curve to find that Comcast had completely blocked the road...here it was..SUDDEN STOP ON A CURVE! Got thru that one ok to go about 200 yards up the road and have a ComEd truck stop right in front of me so I HAD TO SWERVE!! If I had NOT had those two skills the day before I would have been asphalt splatter!!!! I can never tell you the gratitude for Troy and his lessonsI had that day. (feel free to use this as advertisement copy!!) Going back on Tuesday to take the test? NO SWEAT AT ALL!!! LOL (only missed 2 points...hit a line on the U turn). Thanks for the great skills, and I want more. How about a dirt bike class???

I have to admit...I was a bit leary when I signed up, after all it had been 28 years since I had a motorcycle license! I lost my endorsement because the dmv wanted cash when I moved to Illinois and I only had enough with me (counting toll money)to get the D on the license. My son wanted to learn, so I signed us up...I was worried about looking like everyone's grandfather...mid 50s..what if I couldn't keep up? Oh well...sign up quick before I change my mind!

Gosh I was surprised...My 24 yo son was the youngest in the class!!! The next youngest was in his mid-40s!!! I was still the oldest but only by maybe 3-5 years NOT the 25+ I was worried about!!! WOW has it changed alot! In the 1970s the training was about 15 minutes of talk at the DMV, read this book, don't hit anything, here is your permit, comeback after you have ridden abit! Try not to get hurt..oh yeah you need a helmet while using your permit. I have since found out that the majority of accidents are the 40-60 age group. but I KNOW WHY...most of them are probably like me...deciding that we really liked the sport, so gee NOW I can afford it..so lets get a bike again! Most probably kept their endorsement over the years, so they just started riding again. (See my other post) I had no idea of all the skills, and the importance of Head and Eye control movement and placement!!!!! Powering through obstacles and curves..entirely different than the old philosophy! Granted, bikes have changed A LOT but still! NO WONDER my group has so many accidents...GET SOME OF THE NEW TRAINING, FOLKS!!!

I loved the class, even tho' it was greuling. To be honest, I tried the test before I signed up and did not do very well. I realized I needed to do something or I would never pass it again. After the class, I came in, practiced a bit with the class, took the test, only missed 2!!!! AND I feel so much more confident! The fear is gone, but I have kept the respect, and now I KNOW I can be safe (if it just wasn't for all those other idiots out there...). Please encourage those talking about bikes (especially now with the gas crunch)to get trained and licensed! And to go to ICS, of course!!!!!
